KOCHER RETRACTOR • 6 BLUNT PRONGS • 22.0 CM • CE CLASS I • ISO 13485:2016

Ultra-Atraumatic Wide-Area Retractor for Exposing Massive Soft Tissue Compartments

The KOCHER Retractor with 6 blunt prongs, 22.0 cm is a Class I medical device according to ISO 13485:2016. This special instrument represents the consistent advancement of the atraumatic retraction principle: Six fully blunt prongs enable the safe and extremely gentle retraction of large-volume soft tissue where conventional hooks reach their limits in terms of surface area or safety.

Product Highlights:

✔ Certified according to ISO 13485:2016
✔ CE marking Class I (Regulation (EU) 2017/745)
✔ KOCHER special design with powerful, ergonomic hammer handle
✔ 6 blunt prongs for unparalleled surface adhesion without penetration risk
✔ High-strength, biocompatible stainless steel 1.4435/316L – for demanding conditions
✔ Biocompatibility tested according to ISO 10993
✔ Fully blunt prongs with extra-wide, polished contact surfaces
✔ Length 22.0 cm for exposing deep and extensive surgical sites
✔ Autoclavable and reusable under defined processes

Advantages of the KOCHER Retractor (6 blunt prongs):

Biomechanically Optimized Pressure Distribution: Six contact points distribute retraction pressure most evenly across tissue, eliminating local pressure points that could lead to ischemia or damage.
Absolute Safety for Parenchymal Organs: The design is specifically conceived for work on and with liver, spleen, kidney, or mobilized bowel, where sharp or semi-sharp instruments pose an unacceptable risk.
Stable Exposure of Body Cavities: Enables the safe holding open and presentation of large areas in the abdomen, thorax, or pelvis during complex reconstructive or oncological procedures.
Reduced Intraoperative Trauma: Minimizes iatrogenic tissue damage, which is particularly advantageous during long operations or in tumor surgery followed by systemic therapy.
Engineering Precision: Each prong is shaped and aligned to securely encompass the tissue without penetrating it.

Fields of Application (Highly Specialized):

• Hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) surgery during extensive liver resections or pancreatic surgery
• Large-scale oncological visceral surgery (e.g., peritonectomy, cytoreduction)
• Major urological surgery (radical cystectomy with extended lymphadenectomy)
• Revision and adhesiolysis surgery in massively adhered abdominal cavities
• Special transplant surgery

CRITICAL APPLICATION NOTES:
FOR USE BY HIGHLY QUALIFIED SURGEONS WITH EXPERTISE IN VISCERAL AND ATRAUMATIC SURGERY ONLY.
SPECIALIZED INSTRUMENT FOR SPECIFIC INDICATIONS. Not for general retraction tasks.
PRE-OPERATIVE INSPECTION MANDATORY: Before each use, all six prongs must be inspected for perfect polish, flawless surface, and structural integrity. A single minimal irregularity can negatively affect the pressure profile.
APPLICATION TECHNIQUE: Requires a special technique of flat, vertical traction. No prying or lateral twisting of the instrument.
REPROCESSING PROTOCOL: Strictest hygiene required. After thorough manual pre-cleaning of spaces between prongs, automated cleaning/disinfection in a special instrument tray is mandatory.
DISCARD POLICY: Upon the slightest signs of scratches, loss of polish, discoloration, or deformation, the instrument must be immediately locked and returned to the manufacturer for specialized maintenance. No user maintenance possible.
