Tall Specialized Hook for Deep Retraction in Temporomandibular Joint and Mandibular Surgery

The OBWEGESER Retractor downwards curved, 10x42mm, 24.0 cm is a Class I medical device according to ISO 13485:2016. This variant with a particularly tall tip (42 mm) is a specialized instrument for oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), designed for deeper access and improved tissue retraction in the mandibular and temporomandibular joint region.

Product Highlights:

✔ Certified according to ISO 13485:2016
✔ CE marking Class I (Regulation (EU) 2017/745)
✔ OBWEGESER design with downwards curved, tall tip
✔ Narrow, very tall blade (10x42 mm) for deep access in confined anatomical spaces
✔ High-grade stainless steel 1.4401/316L – corrosion-resistant and biocompatible
✔ Biocompatibility tested according to ISO 10993
✔ Atraumatically rounded edges for safe application in the sensitive facial region
✔ Optimal length of 24.0 cm for excellent leverage and control
✔ Autoclavable and reusable

Advantages of the OBWEGESER Retractor (10x42mm, downwards curved):

Depth Effectiveness and Improved Exposure: The tall tip (42 mm) allows retraction of tissue from deeper layers, e.g., in the area of the mandibular ramus or the temporomandibular joint.
Precise Retraction in Difficult Access: Ideal for surgery in the posterior oral region, for exposing the inferior alveolar nerve in the mandibular canal, or for procedures on the condylar process.
Stable Hold with Minimal Space Requirement: The narrow blade (10 mm) allows precise placement next to neural and vascular structures, while the height provides sufficient tissue purchase.
Specialized for Orthognathic Surgery: Particularly valuable in sagittal split osteotomies (BSSO) and other corrective mandibular procedures to safely hold soft tissue aside.
Ergonomic Optimization: The combination of length, curvature, and height provides the surgeon with excellent control and visibility while minimally obstructing the surgical field.

Fields of Application:

• Temporomandibular joint surgery (arthroscopy, open arthrotomy, condylotomy)
• Orthognathic surgery (sagittal split osteotomy - BSSO, vertical ramus osteotomy)
• Reconstruction following mandibular tumors or trauma
• Removal of deeply impacted wisdom teeth (particularly distoangularly impacted)
• Access to the mandibular canal (inferior alveolar nerve)
• Revision surgery in the temporomandibular joint area

Important Application Notes:

FOR USE BY EXPERIENCED ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS ONLY.
High-precision instrument in neural proximity. Extreme care is required to protect the facial nerve, inferior alveolar nerve, and maxillary artery.
• Before each use, inspect for correct, undamaged curvature and smoothness of all edges.
• Due to the height and leverage, controlled, measured force application is essential to avoid slipping or over-hooking.
• Do not use as a lever for bony fragments.
• During intraoral use, careful protection of the dental arch and oral mucosa is required.
• Discard immediately at the slightest bend or deformation of the specific tip geometry – repair is usually not possible.
