Advantages of the LANGENBECK Hip Retractor (63x20mm):
• Ultimate Surface Control: The 63 mm wide tip allows for simultaneous retraction of multiple muscle or soft tissue structures, creating an exceptionally wide and stable surgical field.
• Optimal Pressure Distribution for Prolonged Procedures: Minimizes local pressure peaks on nerves (sciatic nerve, femoral nerve) and tissue, which is particularly crucial during longer revision or tumor surgeries.
• Ideal for Complex Anatomies: Especially suitable for obese patients, pronounced musculature, or deformed anatomical conditions following previous surgeries.
• Improved View of the Acetabulum: Enables excellent exposure of the hip socket during preparation, cleaning, and implantation of the acetabular component.
• Reduced Risk of Iatrogenic Damage: The broad, surface-wide support significantly reduces the risk of uncontrolled slipping and resulting injuries.

Fields of Application:
• Complex revision hip arthroplasty with extensive soft tissue release
• Tumor surgery in the periacetabular region and pelvis
• Treatment of complex acetabular fractures (e.g., both columns)
• Hip arthroplasty in morbidly obese or extremely muscular patients
• Reconstructive procedures for congenital hip deformities (e.g., high-grade dysplasia)
Important Application Notes:
• FOR USE BY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED HIP SURGEONS ONLY.
• HEAVY PRECISION INSTRUMENT. Despite the wide surface, careful placement under direct vision is required to avoid compressing nerves and vessels.
• Before each use, the structural integrity of the large tip must be checked for bends or cracks.
• Perfect for retracting the entire ventral or dorsal soft tissue mantle of the hip joint.
• Due to leverage, never use as a prying instrument on bony structures or for prosthesis dislocation.
• Particular vigilance regarding the position of the sciatic nerve during posterior and the femoral nerve during anterior application.
• Regular inspection of polish and edges for damage. Discard immediately at the slightest defect, as repair of a 63 mm tip is hardly possible.
