Reinforced Retractor for Secure Grip in Medium-Sized Incisions and Under-Tension Tissue
The FINSEN SKIN RETRACTOR 3x4 is a medical device of CE Class I according to ISO 13485:2016. This more robust variant of the classic Finsen retractor, with increased length (7.0 cm) and reinforced prongs (3 prongs on one side, 4 on the other), is designed for securely retracting stronger skin and subcutaneous tissue in medium-sized surgical incisions. It provides enhanced stability and grip, particularly when tissue is under tension.
Product Highlights:
✔ Certified according to ISO 13485:2016
✔ CE marking Class I (Directive 93/42/EEC)
✔ Reinforced construction for medium-sized access sites
✔ Robust sharp prongs (3x4 teeth) for secure hold on dense tissue structures
✔ Optimal length: 7.0 cm for better leverage and accessibility
✔ High-quality Stainless Steel 1.4301 – rust-proof and biocompatible
✔ Verified biocompatibility according to ISO 10993
✔ Precise spring mechanism for easy application and stepless tension adjustment
✔ Sterilizable and reusable (autoclavable)
Advantages of the Finsen 3x4 Retractor:
• Enhanced Grip Under Tension: The asymmetric 3x4 prongs engage with more contact points, providing deeper and more secure purchase in firm tissue, ideal for tense wound edges, e.g., in larger excisions or in the subcutaneous layer.
• Optimized Leverage: The 7.0 cm length offers better leverage for the user, facilitating retraction in deeper layers or in more difficult-to-access areas.
• Broader Exposure: Allows retraction of a larger tissue area, significantly improving visibility during medium-sized procedures.
• Reliable Spring Function: The sturdy spring construction reliably maintains the set tension without slipping.
• Versatile Application: The standard instrument for numerous procedures in general, vascular, and plastic surgery where greater holding power is required.
Technical Specifications:
• Model: FINSEN Skin Retractor, sharp, 3x4

Areas of Application:
• Retraction for medium-sized skin excisions and tumor resections
• General surgical procedures (e.g., herniotomies, vein stripping)
• Vascular surgical access
• Plastic surgery procedures with larger flaps
• Orthopedic approaches on extremities (e.g., lower leg or forearm)
• Urological and gynecological procedures with medium-sized skin incisions
Important Safety Notes:
• FOR USE BY QUALIFIED SURGICAL PERSONNEL ONLY.
• Before each use, inspect for intact, sharp prong tips and a correctly functioning, stable spring.
• Special Caution: The sharp prongs can cause significant tissue damage if applied incorrectly or with excessive pressure. Do not use on thin, atrophic skin.
• Apply spring force in a targeted and measured manner to avoid ischemia or necrosis of the grasped tissue. Periodically release the retractor during the procedure.
• Do not apply in immediate proximity to important superficial nerves (e.g., saphenous nerve, superficial radial nerve).
• Strict adherence to reprocessing protocols is mandatory to remove tissue residues from between the prongs.
• Discard immediately if prongs become even slightly dull, if the prong row is bent, or if spring tension weakens.
