The Specialized Instrument for Ultimate Soft Tissue Preservation During Massive Area Retraction
The KOCHER Retractor with 8 semi-sharp prongs, 22.0 cm is a Class I medical device according to ISO 13485:2016 and represents the highest echelon of tissue-preserving retraction instruments. This tool was developed for exceptionally specialized procedures where extremely broad-based retraction of large-volume soft tissue is imperative, and simultaneously every quantum of tissue trauma must be avoided to maximize biological healing potential.
Product Highlights:

Advantages of the KOCHER Retractor (8 semi-sharp prongs):
• Biologically Optimized Retraction: Eight semi-sharp prongs create a maximum contact area, distributing retraction pressure so evenly and gently that microcirculation and tissue structure are preserved optimally.
• Prevention of Secondary Damage: Designed to significantly reduce iatrogenic muscle and soft tissue damage during lengthy procedures with extensive exposure.
• Support of Biological Healing: Minimizes the risk of postoperative swelling, hematomas, and tissue necrosis that can delay the healing process.
• Precision Tool for Microsurgical Environments: Enables stable conditions near microsurgical anastomoses without endangering surrounding tissue with sharp tips.
• Engineering Precision: Each prong is individually shaped and aligned to exert uniform, controlled pressure on the tissue.

Fields of Application (Highly Specialized):
• Microvascular reconstructive surgery with large flap procedures (e.g., DIEP, Latissimus flaps)
• Function-preserving tumor resections in orthopedics with nerve and vessel preservation
• Complex revision spinal surgery focusing on preservation of back extensor muscles
• Special trauma surgery in critical soft tissue conditions (e.g., open fractures grade III)
• Highly specialized procedures in plastic-reconstructive facial surgery
CRITICAL NOTES AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS:
• FOR USE BY HIGHLY QUALIFIED SURGEONS WITH EXPERTISE IN BIOLOGICAL AND TISSUE-PRESERVING SURGERY ONLY.
• INSTRUMENT FOR SPECIFIC INDICATIONS: Not for routine procedures. Use must be strictly indicated.
• PRE-OPERATIVE INSPECTION MANDATORY: Before each use, all eight prongs must be inspected under magnifying loupes for perfect geometry, free tips, and structural integrity. A single inadequate prong compromises the entire pressure profile.
• APPLICATION TECHNIQUE: Requires a special, almost flat application technique and measured, vertical traction. No rotational or prying movements.
• REPROCESSING PROTOCOL: Strictest hygiene. After manual pre-cleaning of spaces between prongs, automated cleaning/disinfection in an instrument tray with individual holder is mandatory. Regular inspection by instrument service.
• DISCARD POLICY: Upon the slightest signs of wear, polish alteration, micro-bending, or corrosion, the instrument must be immediately locked and returned to the manufacturer for assessment and specialized maintenance. No user maintenance possible.
