Broad-Area Retraction with Maximum Tissue Preservation
The KOCHER Retractor with 4 semi-sharp prongs, 22.0 cm is a Class I medical device according to ISO 13485:2016. This special variant combines the broad-area holding effect of a four-prong retractor with the tissue-preserving property of semi-sharp prongs. It offers an optimal solution for procedures where extensive and stable soft tissue retraction with simultaneous minimization of tissue trauma is the highest priority.
Product Highlights:
✔ Certified according to ISO 13485:2016
✔ CE marking Class I (Regulation (EU) 2017/745)
✔ KOCHER design with hammer handle for powerful control
✔ 4 semi-sharp prongs for broad-area, gentle hold
✔ High-grade stainless steel 1.4401/316L – corrosion-resistant and biocompatible
✔ Biocompatibility tested according to ISO 10993
✔ Semi-sharp prong tips with controlled penetration depth
✔ Ideally dimensioned at 22.0 cm for deep and extensive access
✔ Autoclavable and reusable
Advantages of the KOCHER Retractor (4 semi-sharp prongs):
• Optimal Pressure Distribution: Four prongs distribute retraction pressure evenly across a large tissue area, avoiding harmful peak pressures that could lead to tears or necrosis.
• Excellent Holding Security with Reduced Trauma: Provides the holding power of a four-prong retractor while significantly reducing the risk of deep tissue perforations compared to the sharp variant.
• Prevention of Tissue Damage: The special semi-sharp geometry allows secure grasping without unnecessarily penetrating deep into tissue – ideal for retracting muscle bellies and larger fascial areas.
• Ergonomic Efficiency: Enables effective retraction with reduced surgeon effort, as holding power is distributed across multiple prongs.
• Versatility in Advanced Procedures: A universally applicable instrument for advanced surgical disciplines where soft tissue preservation is critical.

Fields of Application:
• Major orthopedic surgery (hip and knee joint revisions)
• Plastic and reconstructive surgery (for extensive flap procedures)
• Abdominal surgery (retraction of abdominal wall muscles during reconstructive phase)
• Spinal surgery (dorsal approaches with soft tissue preservation)
• Trauma surgery (treatment of extensive soft tissue injuries)
Important Application Notes:
• FOR USE BY EXPERIENCED SURGICAL PERSONNEL ONLY.
• Despite tissue-preserving design, professional handling is required. Uncontrolled force application can still cause tissue damage.
• Before each use, check the perfect condition of all four prong tips. Do not use flattened or damaged tips.
• Not suitable for retracting extremely dense, scarred, or calcified tissue – a sharp retractor may be necessary here.
• Particularly suitable for elective procedures where soft tissue preservation and postoperative rehabilitation are priorities.
• During reprocessing, ensure meticulous cleaning between prongs. Do not damage the special tip geometry.
• Discard immediately if any damage, bending, or wear of the prongs is present.
